Alienated by Melissa Landers (Book Review)

Alienated (Alienated, #1)Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no

human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

Now that ladies and gentlemen, was a cool book. This book takes place on Earth, not sure when, but aliens have made contact. In order to help an alliance, the government starts the first ever alien student exchange program. In this book we follow Cara Sweeney, the valedictorian of her local high school, and Aelyx, an alien from the planet L'eihr. This was a fun fast paced book that I really enjoyed. Highly recommend for alien lovers.

I loved the idea for this book. I don't know how she came up with it, but I thought it was brilliant. How would you deal if an alien student came to live in your house, followed you around school, caused threatening notes, and people protesting outside your school. Uh yes, scary. Not to mention, Tori and Eric. Oh Tori.

I love it when characters have something in common with me, blogging. Now I know it wasn't a big part of the story, but it was cool getting to read some of posts. The first thing I thought though, what forum did she use. Yes, I'm weird.

I feel like Melissa Landers was really good at details. When she was explaining L'eihr, I could picture it clearly in my head. Also when she was describing the characters emotions, and when Cara tried to cook for Aelyx. I love it when authors put a lot of detail in their books. I did read a book one where there was too much detail though.

Why do you think the rioters called themselves HALO? Maybe it was because they thought themselves angles protecting the Earth? Or maybe it's a cool acronym.

No, can't be it. Tell me what you think it is in the comments.

What did you think of Cara and Aelyx's relationship? I think that the funniest parts of the book were when they were friends. For example, when she was trying to make him food from his home planet, and she completely ruined it, and he was trying not to offend her. Probably one of the funniest parts of the book.

I did like them as a couple though too. You know that moment when you see a couple that is really cute together, and you can't help but say, "Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhh." That was them. Remember when Aelyx couldn't find Cara, but her found her backpack instead? Then when he found her he wasn't mad at her. He just held her and thanked his Sacred Mother. That was like the cutest thing ever. I did find that there relationship turned a little cheesy near the end of the book. Like when they broke up, then got back together a couple hours later. I also feel like the author hinted that there would be a love triangle between Cara, Aelyx, and Eric. I could be wrong, also I don't know how she would pull it with them on different planets. Imagine if Eric and Aelyx fell in love, and Cara fell in love with someone else on L'eihr. That will never happen, but it was fun to imagine! Also tell me in the comments what do you think will happen in the next book.
