The Weekly Recap: DAMN YOU VEGGIES (Week of 6/18/17)

Happy Sunday! I'm linking up to The Sunday Post, hosted by The Caffienated Book Reviewer, and Book Photo Sundays, hosted by Rabbit Ears Book Blog.

-MY LIFE-
Well, I made it two weeks before making the realization that vegetables make me vomit. Let me start at the beginning. I went on a new diet, and was having trouble with it. So, I went to a nutritionist (who wasn't very good at her job, just a side note). She told me I was eating around 1,000 calories on a good day. And what she didn't know, was that the food I was eating was making me feel really bad, and sick. It took another week, but I realized, as I was sitting on the bathroom floor trying not to vomit, that every time I ate vegetables, I almost threw up, and was in a lot of pain. So, I'm back to eating rice and bread, and I haven't felt like I was going to throw up since. So, if you haven't realized it yet, I'm not going to be eating a salad for a while.

Other than that, it wasn't a bad week. I had an infusion on Friday, and the funniest woman was there. She was blind, and every time a pump would go off, she would say, "Oh, I guess that's me." She made me smile. :)

I'm going to be pretty busy this week! My mom's work holds this little day camp every year, and it nearly kills her every year. There is just a lot of work that she has to do, so I've been helping her out the past couple of years. She hasn't needed a lot of help before hand this year, but I'll be helping out during the actual camp. I'm pretty excited for my job! I'm helping with first day registration, and it is very chaotic. But, after 45 minutes, nobody bothers you. So, I will be sitting at a desk and reading most of the time that the camp is going on (with the occasional interruption). So, not a bad week. :) Have a good week, and happy reading! :)

-WHAT I READ THIS WEEK-
LegacyP.S. I Like You
This week I completely neglected the books I was currently reading, and instead picked up Legacy by Teresa Roman. It was okay, but it disappointed me. I ended up giving it two stars. Then I learned that P.S. I Like You was due at the library, and decided to get that one read before it was due. This was my first book by West, and while I did enjoy it, it didn't live up to the hype it had built up. I gave it three stars.

-CURRENTLY READING-
I think that it' time that I told you guys all of the books that I'm "currently reading."

The Dead HouseA Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3)Slasher Girls & Monster BoysCarry On

I first started Carry On, but then I started feeling slumpish. So, I picked up Slasher Girls & Monster Boys, which is a series of novellas. I was enjoying it, but then one of the stories put me in a reading slump. To get out of the reading slump I picked up A Court of Wings and Ruin, which I was expecting big things from. I loved the first two books in the series, and I was super excited when this one came out. I got through 400 pages out of the 700, and was feeling done with the whole thing. I just don't want to read anymore of the book. Which is really concerning considering that this is a Sarah J. fucking Maas book. So, I picked up The Dead House, which is told through journal entries, and police reports. I was really enjoying it, until it took this one turn, and now I just.... So, that's the story of how I'm currently reading so many books, that I'm not actually reading. I'm hoping to finish some of these this week, but I'll probably end up starting Devil and the Bluebird by Jenifer Mason-Black instead.

-BOOKS I HAVE ACQUIRED-
Devil and the BluebirdMeet Me Under the Stars

I received an ARC of Devil and the Bluebird from the publisher when it was first coming out, but my copy was so corrupted that it was impossible to read. I tried contacting the publisher about it, but I never heard back. So, when I found this one at my library, I decided that I would get that review turned in after all. This week Erin from BookFish Books sent me a copy of Meet Me Under the Stars by K.D. Proctor, the book that they are releasing in July. This one sounds really interesting, and I'm excited to dive into it. :)

-QUESTION OF THE WEEK-
Do you normally read one book at a time, or do you have lots of books going at once? Let me know in the comments! :)

  1. Ooo too much of any food will make me ill, I love veggies, but some give me trouble. I hope you find a balance that works for you. Feeling ill is awful. Loving your instagram pics this week.

    1. Ya, right not I'm flaring, so ALL veggies are giving me a hard time. I'm just happy to have my rice back! :)

    2. I think you might have been making faaar too many changes all at once. My advice would be to keep going with most of the main foodstuff and just add something new gradually. What you did properly upset the flora in your gut that couldn't cope with digesting something so completely different... But I think your strategy of returning to the diet that isn't causing problems is a sound one:).

    3. Thank you, Sjhigbee! I'm not sure what happened, but after some research I learned that others have also had troubles with the veggies (who also have my specific health condition). I think that I'm going to end up going to a different nutritionist. That other one left a bad impression.

  2. There's some veggies I like but I like em best in small doses lol. I'm actually worse with fruit, there are few fruits that I can eat. I can't stand bananas especially. Glad you figured that out though.

I usually like to read one book at a time but sometimes I start one, get bored or whatever, and start something else. I'm sorta doing that now, I started Across the Universe a while back but haven't touched it in days, same with another book, and I just finished one and started another. I'm not sure what's going on with me and my reading!

    1. I usually read one book at a time as well. It appears that we've found ourselves in similar situations!

  4. Oh, too bad about the veggies. I never had that problem. I hope that you enjoy all of your books!

  5. So sorry to hear about your troubles with foods. Glad you are going down the right path now.

I always juggle lots of books. Lots. Sometimes up to twenty. Crazy, huh?

  6. I'm sorry to hear you've been sick. :( A job where you can read most of the day... that's a good job right there!

  7. Sorry to hear about your food trouble, maybe you could try a small amount of just one thing to see how your body reacts. I know I have trouble with certain foods too. I usually have several books going at the same time, maybe that's why it takes me so long to finish them. Have a great week and I hope things work out diet wise.

    1. Ya, that's what I'm trying. I've never really done anything like it before, so it's interesting. :)

  8. Broccoli springs to mind as a veggie that is hard to digest. Most lettuce is also on my hard-to-digest list. My favorite veggie is zucchini. Corn works, too.

But...sometimes it's good to try things slowly.

Enjoy your week. I'm curious about There Will Be Lies.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

    1. That's funny, because I remember zucchini being one of the ones that I tried (and ended up failing miserably with). Thanks for stopping by! :)

  9. Wow, I wonder why veggies mess your stomach up so badly? That's really bad. I hope you can get better? My whole system fucks up if I eat rice and white bread! I guess we're opposites? :) it's pretty bad though too, because my boyfriend loves rice and pasta, and I absolutely can't eat that. Stomachs are complicated!!

    1. I know! I think that I might have been eating too many raw veggies. Apparently cooked veggies are easier to digest. I don't know, I also tend to fare better with blander foods, so that could also be a factor. Thanks for stopping by! :)

  10. Hope you start feeling better and can figure out a good diet that will help you and not make you sick.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  12. That's tough luck on veggies making you sick :( I hope you feel better soon! I used to have a lot of food problems. I went to a naturopath and that actually really helped. He had a very unconventional way of testing...muscle testing or energy testing, I think he called it. It was crazy but he picked out foods that did not agree with me. Enjoy your reading and have have a great week :)

  13. Sorry to hear you felt that sick eating veggies and that the nutritionist sucked! I wonder what it is though! because it would be great if you could eat veggies since they have tons of vitamins. Hopefully you are only allergic to one or two and you can eventually find out which ones so you can eat the rest You are such a good daughter helping your mom with her day camp! AND you'll get to read! good for you! :)

  14. Sorry to hear about your health, hon. Maybe your body needs some time to adjust to veggies. Veggies are healthy. I hope you're getting better. Anyway, glad to hear about the new job helping your mom. It sounds so fun.
Enjoy your books and happy reading, Anna. :)

  16. Hi and thanks for visiting my blog the other day! I'm sorry I'm slow on getting back to yours but I am in the middle of catching up. :)

Ahhh! Veggies make you sick!? That's no good!!! I'm glad you figured it out though!

Camp sounds like fun! I hope you enjoyed it - especially the reading. :)

Sorry ACOWAR didn't live up to your hopes... It wasn't as good as the rest of the series to me either, but I still loved it.
