The Weekly Recap: New Desk New Me (Week of 4/1/18)

I'm linking up with Kimberly who blogs at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer for The Sunday Post. The Sunday Post is a weekly meme where all us bloggers talk about out week in reading, what books we got, and what's coming up in the week ahead. I'm also linking up with Book Photo Sundays hosted by Rabbit Ears Book Blog, a weekly meme where we share our favorite photos of the week.

My Life
Hello everybody! I hope that you all had a wonderful week, and ware able to read some good stories. Today my mother and I went on a field trip...to Ikea. There I learned that I'm incredibly out of shape, and that my mom is an aggressive Ikea shopper. Seriously, she had no patience for slow walkers. So, I finally got a new desk! (Well technically it's a bar table but I'm going to be using it as a desk). The desk I have right now is just, not good. There's barely enough room to put my laptop on it. So I'll be able to do all of my work on this new one. Oh, and thank you to my mom (she brought the car that could carry it). Now I just need to put it together... may the odds be ever in my favor, lol.

This was my first week back to my classes after spring break, and it was oddly nice. Usually I dread going back, but I enjoyed being back and getting into the groove of things. I'm getting close to being set to take some classes over the summer, with registration starting later this month. It's almost time, peeps!

It's a three day weekend for me, so I'll be around the interwebs, cleaning, catching up on some work, and (hopefully) setting up my new desk. Feel free to stop by and say hi, and have a great week! :)

Currently Reading
The Sleeper and the Spindle
Okay but the artwork is so pretty I literally can't even.

What I Read
Speak: The Graphic Novel
I finished Speak: The Graphic Novel last week and even wrote a review for it! It's been a while since I wrote one of those, so hopefully it doesn't suck, lol.

Books I Have Acquired
The Witch Doesn't Burn in this One (Women are Some Kind of Magic, #2)
I've heard amazing things about this author, and I've been wanting to read more poetry lately. So, this seemed like the perfect grab. :)

    1. Oooo, I still need to read Gemina, but I'm excited to get to it. Apparently it's really good.

I'm hoping that the assembly of everything wont be too terrible as it's a relatively simple design. But IKEA has a way of surprising me, lol. Have a good week! :)

    2. I LOVED Gemina, my favorite of the three! It has some badass action and the best characters. Ella- is all I'm saying. She's amazeballs.

  2. Lol to the story about you and your mom at Ikea. I really need a desk too! I'm just using a folding table right now o.0 Good luck with putting it together and have a great week!

  3. I totally adore Chris Riddell's artwork too! I read the Graveyard book by Gaiman with his illustrations and both the writing and the drawings enchanted me. It was a library book but I really want to own a copy of that edition one day.

  4. Lol... I can relate to you and mother going shopping. At 81, she can still put on an impressive speed, but when we were all younger, my abiding memory is Mum's back disappearing into the crowds as we were trotting to try to keep up... Best of luck with the Ikea desk and have a great week-end. That Neil Gaiman cover is to die for!

    1. My mom isn't always as speedy as she was, I think that she really just wanted to get out of the store as fast as possible, lol. She learned to slow down though once my knee problems started acting up.

      Have a good week! :)

  5. I can relate on the slow walking bit. Recently hurt my knee and realized I'm also SUPER out of shape. Been doing an easy workout every two days now. The kind I was taught THE LAST TIME I hurt my knee xD it's immensely helpful for the knee, although I don't know if it's ENOUGH for my whole 'shape'...

It's nice that you've got a new desk :) how come is it a bar table though xD haha.... No drawers then?

    1. Ya, I need to start doing something to help me get back into some sort of shape. Working out can be tough though, especially sense I get sick so often. I'm thinking some beginners yoga to start and then I'll work my way up. :)

I honestly didn't like any of the desks that IKEA had. I really just wanted a big surface so I had enough room for my laptop, textbooks, papers, notebooks, basically anything I would need for my classes. And well, the table just happened to be exactly what I was looking for. XD

      Have a good week! :)

  6. I've only been to an Ikea once but I can remember how big it was! I couldn't believe the amount of levels it had - I feel like you could've spent all day there. I can be an aggressive shopper too so I can definitely relate to your mom. My mom is the one always tells me to slow down lol That's awesome about your desk! Good luck with assembling it. As for the best book of March, that's a tough one - I've read so many good ones! I guess I'd go with Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney. It's a super twisty psychological thriller, and even though I read it in mid-March I'm still thinking about the ending.

    1. Oh wow, I'll have to look it up on Goodreads! I'm always looking for more books to add to my TBR.

Yes, Ikea can be a challenge. You have to go in knowing what you want to look at or you'll get sucked into it, lol.

Thanks for stopping by and following! :D

  10. Congrats on the new desk! I love getting new stuff. I would like a new one, too, since mine is a "re-purposed" desk from another room, tucked into a little nook. LOL.

Enjoy your reading...and thanks for visiting my blog.

  11. YAY! for a new desk. I don't have room in our house for a desk so I bought us all these little small floor tables. They work perfectly with our laptops :)
I hope you have a fantastic week, Happy Reading!

    1. That sounds nice! The one I got is technically a table, but there are many different things that work as desks. XD

  17. Did you get a chance to set up your desk? I see your comment above that as of yesterday, it was a no go. Maybe save it for the weekend. A new desk could really make all the difference in the world. :)

I am really looking forward to reading The Witch Doesn't Burn in This One as well. I haven't yet read anything by Lovelace, but I have another of her poetry books to read as well.
